lose:「負ける」 lost:「負けた」※不規則変化動詞
do one's best: 「最善をつくす」

join:「…に加わる, 参加する」
April:「4月」
joined:「…に加わった」
At first, I was really tired after practice, but I tried hard.
最初は、練習のあととても疲れていましたが、 一生懸命がんばりました。
< at first > : 「最初は, はじめのうちは」
tired:「疲れた」
practice: 「練習」
try:「やってみる, 努力する」
tried:「やってみた」
※y を iに変えてed
hard: 「一生懸命に」
In January, we had a rookies' game.
1月には新人戦がありました。
> January: 「1月」
had: 「haveの過去形(不規則変化)」
rookie:「新人」
It was my first game against another school.
それはぼくの初めての対外試合でした。
against: 「〜に対抗して」
another:「ほかの, 別の, ちがった」
first: 「最初の」
