Family Stores to Open 24 Hours Family Stores announced today that they would follow other convenience stores and allow their stores to open 24 hours a day, starting from August 1 Family Stores operate on a type of franchise system where the manager of a -store is also the owner of the store. This means that the manager of a store can make the important decisions about how tó run the store and whether to open 5 for 24 hours. Although other convenience stores have had problems with opening for 24 hours, Family Stores believe that they can be successful because of the location of their stores. Shinji Yamada, the President of Family Stores, said, “Most of our stores are in residential areas inside Tokyo. We think that in these areas there is less competition with supermarkets so that there is enough demand to 10 keep our stores open.” Also, Family Stores have been very active in promoting automated services and self check-outs. “Many convenience store groups have had problems finding staff to work late at night and so have stopped the 24-hour service," said Mr. Yamada. “However, with our self-service check-out system, our stores may 15 not need to hire extra staff because the customers can serve themselves.” 12 Comments Sena Ishida 12.June 2019, 22:47 This is great news. My local convenience store used to offer 24-hour service, but they stopped because they couldn't find anybody to work late at night. ! hope the self-service system of Family Stores is successful,but I'm worried that it might lead to people not paying for their items.
