My name is Donna Burke, and I have the best job for someone who loves the sound of (her Eren before する前でさえ 自分自身の響きをする人にとって own voice! Even beford I came to Tokyo in 1996, 1 listened to myself all day, because I worked as a high school teacher in Perth, Australia, teaching English, speech and drama. After nine years as a high school teacher, I became interested in the wider world. A lot of people in Perth told me I could find work in Japan using my voice something I always wanted to do and so I left my home to look for work in Tokyo. The only work I could find here in ny first year was as an English teacher and singer it was impossible for me to get work as a narrator because no one wanted to record an Australian voice speaking English. Australian English was disliked in Japan very much. They thought it was not as "elegant" as British or as "cool" as American English. One of my best jobs came when the new Shikansen Shinagawa Station opened in October 2003. Before it opened, Japan Railways had to record all its announcements again for the Tokaido Shinkansen. I tried to get the job using a British accent. Five months later. I learned I won the job. I wasn't untill after the three days of recording that]-JR discovered I was an Australian! When I'm in a foreign country and meet Japanese, I love to do the Shinkansen voice for them: “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Shinkansen! This is a Nozomi Super Express bound for Hakata." I watch as they Scream with laughter. I hope you never hear my different announcements on the Shinkansen, but I feel very proud of those. When I was recording the usual announcements, I had to use a high genki voice with a correct accent. When the train stops because of snow, ice, wind, earthquake, or typhoon, I was able to use 2. warm and low voice. I hope it will help relax people who are feeling a little worried. One of the best things in my life is to sing to use my voice to give love, hope, and despair to people. This month, I'm going to release my fourth album. It is called “Blue Nights.” a song about Australia and Okinawa. Last year I started my own music business. One of my TV producer friends was saying that the foreign music company for recording jobs in Tokyo didn't have enough singers, so he often had to fly to Los Angeles or New York to make just one Tecording. He asked me and my manager to find new singers, and a few months later we ran the business. We now have more than 150 singers of all nationalities of our books. I spent very happy nine years here, discovered natto and sushi, and bought nice clothes in Harajuku. I hope you now feel you know the person behind the voice. If you ever run into-me, make sure you say a friendly "Gidday!" (注) narrator 話し手、 ナレーター cool かっこいい announcement アナウンス bound. 行きの laughter 笑い声 despair nationality 国籍 Gidday != Good day! However, from time to time a new and interesting way of using cloning technology comes out. One example of this was when the movie Jurassic Park came out some years ago. After that, scientists thought to that life forms / be recreate / might they able) have disappeared from the Earth. It has been thought that over 100 species.disappear from the Earth each day because many living places have been destroyed in some parts of the world. Although there are thousands of recently extinct plants and animals, there are two species that scientists have interest in: the Tasmanian Tiger and the Wooly Mammoth. The Tasmanian Tiger was the last of the large marsupial predators in Scientists are interested in it because there are several specimens of the tiger that have been well-preserved. Australia. Wooly Mammoths were food for some of the earliest men for a long time. 10 million Mammoths are thought to be frozen in eastern Russia, although only 100 of them have been discovered by now! These animals have been frozen for so long. ( )) scientists hope that their DNA is well-preserved and can be used for cloning. Though there are some specimens which can be studied, it may be difficult to copy DNA. DNA is thought to live about 10,000 years. However, even before then, in some cases it breaks up into pieces and can't be used for cloning. The Giant Moa bird disappeared about 250 years Scientists studying the DNA of the bird found in New Zealand say that this DNA has already broken up into pieces and that it is impossible to link them together ago. There is another problema moral one. I don't think it is right to recreate an extinct species that must live in a zoc forever because its natural living place has been destroyed. I also think this: it is more important to stop the extinction of hundreds of still living species, rather than to spend so much time and money trying to recreate one or two animals that can no longer live for themselves in today's world. Soon it will be possible to recreate organs by using cloning technology and save the lives of a lot of sick people. However, do you think cloning technology really brings happiness to us? We may know how to recreate humans by using it. But then cloned humans will bring us a lot of problems. So, I believe our ( 6 ) way of using it will make us happy. Date 2. 14. Sua 16 食料問題が専門のブラウン先生が高校生を対象に体験授業を行いました。 次の英 [都立新宿・設間一郎] 文を読み, グラフを参照して、あとの問いに答えなさい。 Good morning, everyone. What did you have for breakfast? Me? This morning I had rice, miso-soup, natto, fish, vegetables, and eggs. You may call it a Japanese meal, but in fact we can also call it an "international" meal. We make miso and natto from soybeans. You may be surprised to know Japan imports almost all beans and half of its fish from other countries. Do you know. what the self-sufficiency rate is? The following formula can give us the rate. 自給率 以下の数式 量 Self-sufficiency rate (%): = The amount of food produced in Country X The amount of food consumed) in Country X 消費する 率 x100 If the rate is over 100 %, the amount of produced food is larger than the amount of consumed food. If the rate is (0) 100 %, they do not produce enough food for their own country. Japan's rate for beans was about 6% and its rate for fish is about 50 % in 2003. How about other countries? In the graph on this page, five countries are compared. The graph shows each country's self-sufficiency rates for five kinds of food. Meat, wheat eggs, vegetables and beans. Country A, a small country in the mountains, imports a lot of food from outside. Look at each country's rate for meat. Only Country A's rate is lower than 100 %. Country C's rate for eggs is higher than 200 %. The other countries produce just enough eggs for themselves. Country C also exports a lot of vegetables and meat. The amount of food Country D exports is very surprising. The amount of wheat and the amount of beans exported from there are the largest in the world. They are grown on large lands with big machines. But Country D's self-sufficiency rate for wheat is half of Country B's rate, and Country D's rate for beans is about 30% of Country E's rate. Can you guess the reason? A lot of wheat and beans are consumed in Country D. Jaf Many countries are trying to raise their self-sufficiency rates to get enough food all the time. What is a good way to raise them? I have an idea. Do you know that one person wastes 21kg of food at home in Japan in one year? I think the amount of food wasted all over Japan is surprising. If we reduce wasted food, we can also reduce consumed food. And, if the amount of produced food does not change, the self-sufficiency rate will become higher. There is another good point about my idea. In the world there are 852 million people who can't eat enough food. The amount of food collected from around the world for the hungry people was 10 million tons in 2003. So the amount of food wasted at home in Japan in a year is about () % of the amount of the global food aid in 2003. If we reduce the amount of food we buy from other countries to consume for ourselves, we may be able to spend more money to buy food for those people. Don't waste food, and help ourselves and a lot of friends all over the world. They were giving prizes to the best art students of the year, and Michael Marley won a prize for his Sculpture of an old farmer with his left hand on his plow and an empty right sleeve; it was clear that his right arm had been there. I thought that it was an unusual subject, so I asked the artist about it after the show. He smiled and told me that it was a long story, so I asked him to go to a nearby restaurant. The story had its beginning in England about a hundred years ago. It was about a rich country family who had been farmers for several hundred years. w. The other son Peter stayed at home. But he really loved painting and making small wooden figures, not the land. To get away from such a life, Peter decided to run away. He finally got on a ship going to New York. ・そのような生活から逃れるために、ピーター 家を出る決心をした。 In New York City, Peter turned from painting to sculpture, and after five years, he began to get a few jobs. One day he got the important job of making a large stone statue for a city park. He asked another sculptor to be his assistant. And then it happened. The assistant was lifting the huge block of stone with a rope, but he was careless, and the rope slipped off his hands. The stone block fell from a high place and Peter had no time to get away. His arm was terribly broken, and a doctor had to take it off. Peter tried to work with his left hand. but it was useless. One day the assistant sculptor visited Peter probably because he felt sorry for the accident. He offered Peter a large piece of land in California. He told Peter that it was greatly valuable, not only as farmland, but also because there was gold in the river that ran through it. Peter decided to get the land at once. He didn't know what else to do. If he could not be a sculptor, he would be a gold miner, and if that didn't work. he could always be a farmer again. He married a young woman and they left for a new life in California. But they got disappointed with their new life. There was no river and no gold. The land was hard, dry, and rocky. But Peter remembered what his father had taught him about farming. Ile and his wife did not quite starve. They built a small house and had a family of seven children. Michael Marley came to a stop. It was the end of the story. "So Peter was the model of your old farmer with one arm," I said.
