In 2008, the Japanese government began to consider
lowering the voting age to 18. Japan's three major newspapers,
in their editorials, expressed favorable opinions about this
move. The commonly shared reason is that the majority of
the countries in the world have 18 as the legal adult age, or 5
the voting age. Also, two of the three papers pointed out
that giving the right to vote, which also means making people
share responsibility, enhances the maturity of young people.
Furthermore, one newspaper wrote that the voices of younger people should be
heard because they would shoulder more burden of the aged society. All of these
reasons seem to be persuasive. (110 words)
