It is reported that more people are suffering from this reading difficulty in English-
speaking countries: 10-15 percent of the population in the U.S., for example, though in
Japan, it is 5-8 percent. This may be because it is more difficult to connect letters to
sounds in English, in which pronunciation of a letter varies depending on the word it is
used in in Japanese, one kanamoji represents only one sound. Even so, a lot of
Japanese people are suffering from this disorder.
