Switzerland has been a neutral state since 1815. But how can their
neutrality ( 1 ) themithereisa nuclear War in Europe? Surely the
whole of Europe would be destroyed in a nuclear war. The Swiss are
well prepared for that. Since 1960, every new building in Switzerland
5 must have a nuclear shelter by law. They are made of reinforced concrete,
and have concrete doors 30 centimeters thick so that they can withstand
anatomic ( 2 ). They must have a gas filter in case poisonous gas
is used. There must also be enough space, for ,。Storing food and water
supplies for three months. The cost of building the shelter is shared
) between the owner of the building and the Swiss government.
Beneath every large office block and public building, there are car
parks with massive blastproof concrete doors. These( 3 )carparks
can be quickly aconverted into shelters for hundreds of people. They are
fally( 4 ) mwithhospital beds, medicine, telephones, food and water.
there is the danger of a nuclear war in Europe, the whole Swiss nation wil
