Same Lines, Different Meanings
Sometimes two people use the same words to mean completely different
things. The song I Want It That Way is a good example. In the song, the man
and his girlfriend both say to each other "I want it that way." They're talking
about how they want their relationship to be. They use the same words to
mean opposite things. His "that way" refers to the two of them being together
again, while her "that way" seems to mean that theyshould break up.
How could this be? The answer is quite simple. The word “that" can have
different meanings for different people.
1. In the song/ Want It That Way, the man and his girlfriend use the same words
(A) to say that they should break up
