4 次の文章を読んで、あとの各問に答えよ。(*印の付いている言葉に は、本文のあとに [注] がある。) あなたは、誰かと対話をした経験があるだろうか。 会話ではなく、対話 である。(第一段) よほど特別の事情がない限り、私たちは日常的に会話をしている。 駅の キヨスクでチョコレートパーを買い、会社の守衛さんに挨拶し、職場で同 と打ち合わせをして、昼食時にショートメールで遠方の友人と近況を伝 えあい、帰宅して家族と今日のニュースについて話し合う。このどの場面 でも、私たちは会話をしている。そのいくつかは軽いやり取りであったり、 ただ楽しむためであったりする。他方、仕事の打ち合わせなどはかなり真 剣に、ときに厳しいやり合いをしなければならない。 (第二段) だが、このどれもが会話であっても対話ではない。(第三段) 対話とは、真理を求める会話である。 対話とは、何かの問いに答えよう として、あるいは、自分の考えが正しいのかどうかを知ろうとして、誰か と話し合い､真理を探求する会話のことである。ただ情報を検索すれば得 られる単純な事実ではなく、きちんと検討しなければ得られない真理を得 たいときに、人は対話をする。 それは、自分を変えようとしている人が取 り組むコミュニケーションである。(第四段) ショッピングや仕事でのやり取りは、自分の要望と相手の要望をすり合 わせようとする交渉である。 友人や恋人との会話は、よい関係を保ち、相 手を理解し、互いに話を楽しもうとする交流である。これらの会話は有意 かもしれないが、真理の追求を目的としてはいない。対話は、何かの真 理を得ようとして互いに意見や思考を検討し合うことである。(第五段) 私たちは日常生活の中で、ほとんど対話する機会がないのではないだろ うか。それは、真理の追求が日常生活で行われなくなっているからである。 だが実は、対話をしなければならない場面は、日常生活の中にも、思った よりもたくさんあるのだ。 (第六段) 仕事場でも、ただ当面の与えられた業務をこなすだけではなく、仕事全 体の方向性や意味が問われる場合、たとえば、「良い製品とは何か」「今は どういう時代で、どのような価値を消費者は求めているのか」「環境問題 に対して、我が社は頬かむりをしていていいのか」など真剣に論じるべき テーマは少なくないだろう。 家庭でも、子どもの教育をめぐって、 そもそ も子どもにとっての良い人生とはなにか、そのために何を学んでほしいの 親と子どもとはどういう関係なのか、子離れするとはどういうことか、 これらのことについて家族で話し合う必要はないだろうか。地域でも、ど のような地域を目指せばいいのか、住人はどのような価値を重んじている のか、以前からの住人と新しく来た人たちはどう交流すればよいか。本当 はこうしたことについて膝を突き合わせて対話する必要があるのではない だろうか。(第七段) 人生に関すること、家族と社会に関すること、政治に関すること、地域 での生活のこと、私たちはこれらのことをほとんど対話することなく、 日々を過ごしてしまっている。 そうした難しい議論は頭のいい人たちに任 せて、自分たちはせっせと働き、自分個人の生活だけを楽しめばいいのだ。 かつてはこう考える人たちもいた。しかし、そうした態度はすでに販売を 迎えている。私たちは、公共の問題にもう無関心でいられないし、自分個 人のあり方についても、いろいろな人から意見を聞いて考え直してみたい 1 6 ĭ
