国 びまん 令和六年度 看護学部学校推薦型選抜(公募制) 基礎学力試験問題用紙 囲 次の文章は、一九九〇年に出版された山崎正和の『日本文化と個人主義』の一節です。この文 章を読んで、後の問に答えなさい。 文化は、これまで国家や民族という観念と強く結びついてきた。そして、人間の歴史を振返っ てみると、不幸なことに国家や民族の自覚はつねに対立抗争の意識とつながってきた。ひとつ の社会のなかで、個人もまたお互いに争うことがあるが、とりわけ国家や民族は、お互いに争う ことで自分自身をつくりあげてきた。その結果として、文化という特性はただの個人の特性以上 に、とかく他者との比較、対立の観点から考えられがちになる。じっさい、今日の経済マサツ や、つい近年までの世界戦争の現実を振返ってみても、ひとが自国の文化、他国の文化をあげ つらうときには、つねに何らかの意味の優越感や、国家主義的な自己主張の意識が伴っていた。 そして、そういう優越感が、たとえば敗戦といった現実によって崩れたとき、今度は極端な自己 卑下が社会に瀰漫するという事実は、多くの日本人の記憶に新しいことだろう。 こうした事情からして、文化論には、1二つの避けがたい危険な傾向が伴っているといわねば ならない。その第一は、過剰な特殊化の危険である。文化を考える場合には、他民族、他国の文 化と比較して考えがちであるので、どうしても両者の共通性よりは、ひとつの文化の異質性を強 調して考えることになる。 つい昨日まで文化的に じっさい、日本の場合、過去の文化論はしばしば民族主義や国粋主義と手を結びがちであった イクセプショナリズム し、アメリカの場合でも、アメリカ文化の「例外主義」という思想が、長らく見え隠れに受け 継がれてきたようである。ユダヤ人の「選ばれた民」の意識、ドイツ人の民族的な使命感といっ たものは、自国の文化を過度に特殊化し、他国との違いを強調することから生まれてきたが、 ③こうした使命感はいったん裏返ると劣等感に変貌する。 高村光太郎という詩人は、若いころフ ランス留学から帰って、日本の国の貧しさとその精神の狭さを嘆いて、「根つけの国」という自嘲 的な詩を書いたことがあった。しかし、彼が本性において強烈な愛国主義者であり、第二次大戦・ 中には過激な祖国讃美の詩を書いたことは、同時代を生きた日本人なら誰もが知る事実だろう。 とかく異文化との劇的な接触は、精神の単純な人物にとっては、自国の文化について過度な自尊 心を誘い出すか、逆に過剰な劣等感を刺激するものであるようにみえる。 そして、いずれの場合でも、そうした特殊化は、個人が自分の存在や行動について振返るとき、 奇妙に気持ちを安らがせてくれる支えになる。自分とは何か、7自己の実質は何かということは、 もともとたいへん難しい問題であり、簡単には答えが出ないものであるが、ひとは生きるために その答えを欲しがりがちである。そのさい、いちばん安易なやり方は、自分がどういう仲間に属 しているかを実感して、それを語ることで自己の中身を言い表わすことだろう。そして、自分 がどういう仲間に属しているかを振返るとき、その仲間の範囲が狭くて、他の集団と対立してい ればいるほど、自分自身の世界のなかにおける位置は明確になる。ここでもまた、文化論のひず みというものは、人間性の悲しい弱さに深く根ざしているといえそうである。 【
