プロのクライマーになるうえで苦労したことはありましたか?
○野口さん
はい、ありました。 大学時代、 ワールドカップで優勝することが父と私、 二人
の夢でした。 2008年に初めてボルダリングワールドカップで優勝しました。 私が日
本人初でした。 そのとき私は両親に「大学をやめてプロのクライマーになりたい!」
と言いました。 父は私の考えを支持してくれましたが、 母には反対されました。で
すが、最後には賛成してくれました。 当時、 スポーツクライミングは日本ではそれ
ほど人気ではありませんでした。 金銭的にサポートしてくれるスポンサーを探すの
に苦労しました。 たとえそうでも、私は多くのトーナメントに参加するため、 自力
で海外へ行きました。
