過去進行形
「･･･していました」 のように, 過去のある時点で行っていた動作を言う場合,
〈was[were] + 動詞のing〉の形で表現する。
(1) 主語が単数 (1人または1つ)のとき
例 I study English.
She takes pictures.
(2)主語が You または複数のとき
⇒ I was studying English.
She was taking pictures.
例 You study English.
⇒ You were studying English.
We dance.
⇒ We were dancing.
「…していましたか」 のように, 過去のある時点で行っていた動作をたずねる
場合,〈was [were] + 主語 + 動詞のing> の形で表現する。
(3) 疑問文
Did you study English? Were you studying English?
例 What did they do? ⇒ What were they doing?
「･･･していませんでした」 のように, 過去のある時点で行っていなかった動作
を言う場合,〈wasn't[weren't] + 動詞のing〉の形で表現する。
(4) 否定文
例 I didn't study English. I wasn't studying English.
⇒ Emi and I weren't talking.
Emi and I didn't talk.

There is 文
「〜に･･･があります(ありました)」と言う場合, 〈There is [are]....〉の形で
表現する。
"..."に入る名詞(句)が単数のときはis や was を 複数のときは are や were
を使う。
「〜に…がありますか (ありましたか)」とたずねる場合, be動詞を there の
前に出す。
上のようにたずねられて答えるときは, Yes, there is[are]./
No, there is [are] not. のように there を使って言う。
(1) ふつうの文
屋根の上に猫が1匹います。
⇒ There is acan on the roof.
単数
教室にはたくさんの生徒がいました。
=> There were many students in the classroom.
複数
(2) 疑問文
この近くに大きな公園はありますか。

はい, あります。
=>
Is there a big park near here? Yes, there is.

学校のまわりには桜の木がありましたか。

いいえ, ありませんでした。
⇒ Were there any cherry trees around the school?
複数
No, there were not.
例 木の下には何匹のネコがいましたか。

(そこには)3匹いました。
⇒ How many cats were there under the tree?
複数
There were three cats (there).
