Ban Shigeru is a world famous architect. He is best known for
using unusual materials like paper tubes.
On January 17, 1995, there was a great earthquake in the
Hanshin area. Then he asked the priest, "Why don't we build a new
church using paper Tubes ?!" At first, the priest didn't agree to his offe
So he told the priest that the church was important because it would
Serve as a community Center for the earthquake victions. Finary, the
· priest understood Ban's way of thinking and built the church.
with more than 300 volunteers. Architectures are often interested in
working for rich and poueful people. But he should help people affected
by disaster. Ban won the Prizker Architecture Prize in 2014. It is called
the Nobel Prize of architecture. This prize is encouraged him. For him,
"to grow" doesn't mean making the tallest building or having the biggest
office. In fact, he says he would like to have an even smaller office.
And he wants to have more time to spend in disaster areas rather
than in his office.

I think it is very good..
It's because paper tubes
are strong and easy to find.
If big earthquake happens, the building using paper tubes don't crumble.
