や modern Japan と書いてしまう。どちらも間違いではないが,もっとよい表現が上
の解答例に挙げた Japan today や Japan these days だ。 Japan in the 19th
century と言えば 「19世紀の日本」 である。 その in the 19th century という〈前
置詞+名詞〉 を today や these days などの副詞に置き換えると考えればよい。
