の方が自然ですね。
〜がある という文の時にThere is(are)構文と使うのは悪い癖です。
少し感覚的な話ですが、Thereの構文は普通、木がある、車がある、というような“物理的な存在”に対して使われます。
There were some problems in his idea.
でも間違いではないですが不自然ですかね。
