次の英文を読み, 下記の設問に答えなさい。 There are few things on this planet that give me greater joy than making my home the most comfortable, relaxing place possible. So, one winter a few years ago, when my fiancé had a bout of insomnia, I sprang into action, gathering all the things that held promise for a great sleep: black-out curtains, a white noise machine, and the cult favorite a weighted blanket. Weighted blankets, which cost anywhere from $100 and up, are a sleep aid usually made in a duvet style, with the many squares throughout filled with heavy beads. Lovers of the weighted blanket claim that under its weight they can relax faster, leading to a better and deeper sleep. These blankets weigh anywhere from 5 to 14 kg, and manufacturers generally recommend choosing one that's not more than 10 percent of your body weight, although this seems to be just a rule of thumb and not based on scientific study. [1] "Absolutely love it," my friend Greg Malone tells me over Facebook one day. "Rotating shifts makes [a] to sleep hard, but my girlfriend got me one as a gift, and I have found it's made a big difference in falling and staying asleep.' However, Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT)— the act of using firm but gentle pressure on the body to reduce anxiety has been practiced for centuries in various forms. In 1987, a limited study found that many college students who used DPT reported feeling less anxious after [b] full-body pressure for 15 minutes (in an adorably titled "Hug'm Machine"), although the researchers did not note any physical changes like lowered heart rate or blood pressure that would indicate the participants were more relaxed. That being said, a 2016 study found that patients who used a weighted blanket while having their wisdom teeth removed tended to have a slower heart rate than (2)patients who underwent the procedure without, which may indicate that they were more relaxed. However, many patients didn't report feeling more relaxed, and since they each only went through the procedure once, it's difficult to tell if the weighted blanket was the key to calming down. 2 Some say that simply the fact that a weighted blanket makes it more difficult to toss and turn at night makes for a better night's sleep, while others claim it has something to do with [c] the blood vessels on the surface of our skin that causes our heart rate to slow down. It also could be that the feeling reminds us of times when we felt the safest, like getting a hug from someone who cares for us or when our parents would swaddle us as newborns. 3 Similar to how many people adore the feeling of a soft blanket against their skin or can't relax without their favorite scented candle burning, others might connect with the feeling of gentle, full- body pressure. The trick is finding the sensory cue that makes you the most comfortable. "Weighted blankets have been around for a long time, especially for kids with autism or behavioral disturbances," Dr. Cristina Cusin, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, told Harvard Health. "It is one of the sensory tools commonly used in psychiatric units. Patients who are in distress may choose different types of sensory activities holding a cold object, [d] particular aromas, manipulating dough, building objects, doing arts and crafts - to try to calm down." My fiancé immediately disliked the 9-kg blanket I had picked up and said it made him feel like he was trapped. He's not alone in (3) this. "I liked it at first, but then as the night went on, I felt trapped," Heather Eickmann, a family friend, told me. "Also, I sleep on my side, and it really started to make my hip and knee joints ache." With the weighted blanket making my partner's sleep worse, I decided to give it a try myself. And (4) while I didn't find it too heavy to curl up under, the 9-kg blanket did turn making the bed into a small strength exercise. Overall, I tend to be a good sleeper, so swapping out blankets didn't make any outstanding differences to the quality of my snooze. However, later that summer, (5) ² を使ってみたら, まったく別の理由で夜中に目をさましているのに気づいた。 The blanket was HOT. [ Jones, Emma. "Can Weighted Blankets Help You Sleep Better?" 1. 次の英文を読んで (1) ~ (5) の問いに答えなさい。 Have you ever dreamed of traveling in space? I have thought of going into space as an astronaut so many times. Traveling beyond the earth is always a great dream and hope for humanity. But as everyone knows, it is not easy to be an astronaut. There are many people who want to try to get into space flight programs all around the world. So first, you have to pass extremely difficult selection processes to even participate in the training and testing used to prepare potential astronauts for operating in and living F ) in space. The training itself is so hard that it is very difficult (A) complete. ( those that pass the training, only a few can actually experience the trip into space. Every time I see the news about the manned space flights on TV, it does sound like something impossible for a regular person like me. (G ), there was a recent event that really surprised me in September 2021. They 2completed said that ("Crew Dragon" 3the 3 day-mission 5called) the spacecraft successfully. As a surprise, this mission was an "All- Civilian" flight. The four people in the Crew Dragon were not professional astronauts from other space agency programs. A billionaire booked the Crew Dragon capsule last year and picked three normal people to ride (B) him. It was the VERY first totally private mission to orbit. The stories of how the people had been chosen and how the trip succeeded were not only amazing but also very heart warming. Watching this news reminded me (C) the excellent idea about Space elevators. This is a promising scientific technology that could take us into space much more (K) in the future. ( H ) JSEA (Japan Space Elevator Association), the concept of a Space elevator would make reaching orbit in space easier and faster (D) using Centrifugal force and Earth's gravity instead of rockets. Engineers estimate it requires a cable that is about 100,000km long and more than 100 times as strong as steel. So of course, it sounds like a challenging development. Also, the space elevator would require much less energy to lift cargo and people into orbit and be significantly more eco-friendly. As they continue to work on advancing technology, the space elevator may become a reality (E) we know it. With the space elevator, traveling into space would no longer be an impossible dream for us, ordinary people. Just talking about it, I get totally excited and can't help hoping to experience the situation of looking down on the earth from the space one day. (E)に入る前置詞として適切なものを①から⑤か (1) 本文中の(A) らそれぞれ選びなさい。 Dwith 2to 3before 4 by 5 of P.1

3 次の英文は, 中学生の花子 (Hanako) が行ったスピーチである。 これを読んで、 問い (1) ~ (9) に答えよ。 (24,5) There are some people cleaning streets in my town every morning. Also, there are some *crows looking for something in the trash. Many kinds of trash are *scattered around the *dump by them. That is a problem of trash and crows. Many people don't want to *fight with crows, but they want to solve the problem. IA J There is one way to solve the problem. I often see yellow plastic bags for trash. I heard that crows 2[(7) put (1) see (5) the yellow / (I) in / () cannot / () the things] bags. If crows think that there isn't any trash in them, they will go to another place, and we don't have to fight with crows. [B] *However, many crows still come to dumps in my town. They learn quickly and understand well, and they know where to find something for their lives. So, they come back to look for it in trash if they think they can do that easily. What are they trying to find in our trash? If I can answer this question, I may find a better way to solve the problem of trash and crows. So, I started learning about crows. My uncle is studying about crows. He often watches crows in some places and tries to understand their lives. He 3 (tell) me about it last week. They get up very early in the morning and usually start looking for their food in the trash of some restaurants or food shops. In such trash, crows can find their favorite food like *French fries or *mayonnaise. My uncle said that they like *oily food. I thought it's interesting because I like the same food. [ C] Also, they want to find something for making their houses. For example, they need *soft things like dog hair or "cotton because they want to put their eggs on such things. I was surprised to learn that crows find these things very well. There are some better ideas to solve the problem of trash and crows, my uncle said. First, people should put a big *net over the trash. When there is a net, it is difficult for crows to scatter trash around a dump. Heavy nets with small mesh are better. Second, when people put their trash in the dump, they should be careful about the time. Usually, the trash is 4(collect) in the morning. Crows may come and scatter it before that if you put the trash in the dump the previous night. 【D If it is difficult for crows to get their food in our town, they will move to another place. 5My uncle knows what we can do to solve the problem of trash and crows because he always tries to understand them. I think he can see the problem from the side of the crows. 6 We don't want to fight with crows, but ? I've heard that the crows sometimes hit people. Do they want to fight with us? That may not be true. My uncle said that the crows are trying different ways to say, "Don't come around our house!" They want to protect their children when someone comes around their house. Crows are large birds and they can fly, so they look strong. However, they are afraid if someone is near them and they don't usually want to fight with us. So, they don't come around the trash when someone is there. I learned about crows and I understood them better than before. They are just trying very hard to get. things for their lives, and they can find them in our trash easily. So, I don't think they are bad. Scattering trash is a problem to us. However, if I see this problem from the side of the crows, then I will know what I can do to solve it. For example, I will not make much food trash, especially oily food trash, and I can be careful about my way of putting the trash in the dump. There is not an easy way to solve the problem of trash and crows, but now, I know it is important to think about it from the side of the crows. We often think about a problem only from our own side, but if we look at it from another side, we may find a better idea.
