Chinese writer Yang Yi is the first non-native Japanese
Speaker to receive the Akutagawa Prize.
Her novel, Tokiga Nijimu Asa, is about a Chinese
student who moves to Japan is search of a new life.
2 When Yang moved to Japan at the age of 22,:

not speak a word of Japanese. Learning Japanese was a lot
of fun for her. She took lesson and after class,
practiced by talking to as many Japanese people as possible
