言葉で説明するのは少し難しいですが…例えばこんな文。
I went to the library near my house on Sunday. I met Mary there. (日曜日に家の近くの図書館に行った。そこでメアリーに会った。)
このthereは「そこで」という意味の副詞です。じゃあ「そこ」ってどこか？図書館ですよね。thereは、at the library near my houseという長い語句(副詞句)を置き換えているんです。何回もat the library near my houseって言うのはくどいし、面倒ですよね。だから、thereという代名詞を使います。
それに対してover thereは、一回出てきた場所をまた言いたいときに使うthereとは違って、れっきとした場所を表す熟語です。
