[2] 次の英文は,中学生のタカシ (Takashi) とアメリカからの留学生トム (Tom) について
書かれたものです。 よく読んで、 あとの (1)~(6) の問いに答えなさい。
Takashi and Tom are good friends. They are junior high school students. Tom is from
America. He came to Japan six months ago.
One Sunday morning in April, Tom came to Takashi's house, and they studied
together for two hours. When they finished, Takashi said, "Let's go and see the cherry
blossoms. There are many cherry trees in the park near my house. They are very
beautiful now." Tom asked, "Are you going to study cherry trees?" Takashi said, "Oh, no.
In Japan, we enjoy eating lunch under the cherry trees during the cherry blossom
season." "Oh, really? That *sounds nice," said Tom. "We *call it hanami. Hana means
flowers, and mi means to see. But when we say hanami, it usually means to see the
cherry blossoms," said Takashi. "I see. OK, let's go, Takashi," said Tom.
Takashi and Tom went to Takashi's mother and asked, "May we go and see the cherry
blossoms ?" His mother said, "Sure. This is the first ( ) in Japan for Tom. You will
enjoy it." Takashi said, "So I want to make lunch." His mother said, "How about making

surprised and asked, "Why ?" Tom "answered, "Because there will be a lot of cherries on
these trees." "Oh, no. Cherries don't *grow on these trees. Japanese cherry trees are only
*for seeing blossoms." "Oh, I didn't know that. We call them 'cherry trees,' but there
aren't any cherries! That's interesting. Look! There are a lot of people! The Japanese
people really like hanami," said Tom. They enjoyed hanami very much.
