At noon of one Sunday, Ms. Parsons heard her husband park the car outside the house
and then went to speak to him.
“What's the matter ?” he asked.
“Our son Scott has made a great mistake," she said. “Francis, one of Scott's friends, rang
him up about half an hour ago. Scott started talking with Francis and he asked him to
Come and have lunch with us this afternoon."
“Wcll, that's nothing to worry about, isn't it ?" Mr. Parsons said. “We will have a. pleasant
afternoon. We haven't seen him for ages."
“Of course I'd like him to come," said Ms. Parsons, “but Ive just found that there's little
food. You forgot to buy some ice cream and eggs, didn't you ? I asked you to get some
on your way home from work three days ago."
“Ice cream and eggs ?” Mr. Parsons said. “Oh, I just remember now. As a matter of
fact, I did get some. But it's on the back seat of my car. It's been there for the past
three days !"
