問 8 次の会話について,下の問いに答えよ。 Frank and Harry are discussing how the water in a swimming pool can be used to warm the water that one uses in the house. Frank: I noticed that you've put a plastic sheet over your swimming pool. Is that to keep the dirt out?, Harry: ( 1) As a matter of fact, it's to keep the heat in. Frank: I didn't realize that you heated your pool. That must be expensive. Harry: It doesn't cost me a penny, actually. I get the sun to do it. In fact, it saves me money because I use the water in the pool to preheat the water we use in the house. Frank: How on earth do you use water to heat water? Harry: Well, on a really cold winter night you put a hot-water bottle in your bed to warm it up, don't you? Frank: Well, my mother used to when I was a child, but I use an electric blanket now. Harry: Anyway, you see what I mean, don't you? You put hot water in your cold bed, then it gives out heat until both it and the bed are the same temperature. Frank: ( 2 But you can't take your swimming pool into the house, can you? Harry: Not exactly. But I can take some of the water from the pool into the house, and when that has given out most of its heat and become cool, I can let it flow back into the pool, then take some more hot water out, and so on. Frank: Look, let's begin at the beginning again. How do you [ water in your swimming pool? A ] heat the Harry: In the same way that the sun heats the air in the glass-house in which you grow your early tomatoes and lettuce. The heat goes through the glass, but it cannot get out again very easily. So everything in the glass-house gets warmer and warmer. Frank: I've forgotten most of the physics I used to know, but I think that I understand. You mean that the clear plastic sheet over the pool traps the sun's heat? Harry: Right. And it then warms the water in the pool. I'm sure that you remember, enough physics to know that warm water rises and cold water sinks. So all I needed to do was to run one pipe from just below the surface of the water in the pool to the top of a heat-exchanger in the house, and another pipe from the bottom of the heat exchanger to the bottom of the pool. Frank: Heat exchanger? What's that? Harry: Well, let me draw you a diagram of the whole system.... The heat-exchanger is the smaller copper cylinder inside the large copper cylinder. Frank: I see. So the hot water from the surface of the pool flows up the pipe, then into the heat exchanger. Harry: Right. And then the heat exchanger warms the cold water in the big cylinder. Frank: So when you have to heat water for a bath or for tea or something by using the water heater, it doesn't take so long to heat it up because it has been pre-heated by the heat-exchanger. Is that right? Harry: (3) And not only does it take less time to heat it, it's cheaper, too, because it requires less electricity or gas or whatever to heat to the temperature needed.

It is easy for you to read this book. 「この本を読むことはきみにとって(きみには)易しいことだ」 This book is easy for you to read. 「きみにとって(きみには)この本は読みやすい」
