<仮定法を使う表現>
① It's time 仮定法去
ex) It's time you had a haircut.
(もう髪の毛を切ってもいいころだ)
if it were not for
もう~してもいいころだ
もし
if it had not been for
なければ
もしがなかったら
ex) If it were not for music, my life would be boring.
(音楽がなければ、私の人生はつまらないだろう)
ex) If it had not been for your advice, I wouldn't have gone
to college.
(あなたの助言がなければ、私は大学に行かなかっただろう)
③if S were to:もし~したら
ex) What would you do if you were to lose your phone ?
(電話をなくしたら、あなたはどうしますか)
④if S should :~するようなことがあれば
ex) If you should start a company, I would help you as much
as I can.
(あなたが会社を立ち上げるようなことがあれば、できるだけお手伝いします)
<ifを使わずに仮定を表す>
①ifを省略して語順を変える
ex) Were it not for you, this project wouldn't exist.
(あなたがいなければ、このプロジェクトは存在しないだろう)
ex) Had the war not broken out, many lives would have been
saved.
(戦争が起きなかったのなら、多くの命が救われたのに)
