There is [are]~

存在することや、その場所を示したりするとき

・肯定文

in this town.
あとに続くものが複数のとき
短縮形
There is → There's
There is Care〕 ~.は聞き手がまだ知らないものに
ついて注意を向けさせる言い方なので、あとに続く
名詞にはthe などの特定することばをつけないのが普通。
(the は話し手と聞き手が共通に理解しているものに
つける。
・疑問文・
Is there a big park in this town?
・応答文
Yes, there is./No, there is not.

・There is~ を使うとき、使わないとき、
① Look! There is a dog on the chair.
② Look! Your dog is on the chair.
①の話し手は聞き手が知らないイヌだろうと思っている。
⑦の話し手は聞き手がイヌの飼い主と知っているので、
There is~ とは言わない。
○動名詞
動詞のing形で「~すること」を表す。
この形は名詞と同じはたらきをする。
I like playing soccer.
~動名詞のはたらき~
I like baseball
like playing baseball.
I like watching baseball games.
「野球が好き」といっても、プレーすることが好きな
場合や野球観戦が好きな場合がある。 動名詞で、何が
好きなのかをくわしく表現できる。
動名詞は主語にもなる。
