ある一文の中のoil and the electricity produced by water powerという部分について
参考書には"produced by water power"は"the electricity"にのみ掛かっているとありました。これはelectricityにtheが付いているからでしょうか？同じような＜A and B 修飾＞の形の文でAとBどちらも修飾したい時は、AとB両方にtheを付ければ良いのでしょうか🙇‍♀️

produced by water powerとは、「水力によって生み出す」という意味です。なので、電気(electricity)にかかるのは妥当ですが、oilは水力で作るものでは無いからでは無いでしょうか？

おそらく、このandは「oil and electricity」ではなく、文章と文章を繋ぐ等位接続詞だと考えられます。

意味からしてproduced by water powerがoilに繋がらないことは分かるのですが、oil and the electricityでelectricityにしかtheが付いていない理由が分からず、勝手に私は、theを付けることで後ろの修飾がelectricityにのみかかっている事を表しているのか？と思い、確認したく質問しました。＜A and B 修飾＞の形の時、theが付いているかどうかで後ろの修飾がAとBどちらに掛かっているかの判断は出来ないということでしょうか、🙇‍♀️長々とすみません、🙇‍♀️

In the 1880s, the use of steam to produce electricity created another market for coal. Around 1920, however, oil and the electricity produced by water power began replacing coal, and it seemed that coal would gradually lose all importance as a major energy source.
