Many years ago, there were three wonderful elephants at the
Veno Zoo. The elephants were john, Tonky, and Wanty.
They could do tricks. Visitors to the zoo loved to see their tricks.
Japan was at war then. Little by little the situation was

見ることが大好きでした。

毎日東京に落とされました。
もし、爆弾が動物園に命中すると、危険な動物たちが逃げだし、東京の人たち

動物すべてを処分するように動物園に命令しました。

ありませんでしたが、命令には従わなければなりませんでした。彼らは、ジョンから
始めました。
ジョンはジャガイモが大好きでした。そこで、飼育係たちは毒入りのジャガイモを通常の
ジャガイモとまぜて与えました。しかし、ジョンは大変かったので、毒のないジャガイモ
だけを食べました。そこで、注射を打つことにしました。しかし、ジョンの皮は
あまりに硬く、注射針が通りませんでした。注射での毒殺がうまくいかなかった
ので、飼育係たちはジョンに食べ物を与えないことにしました。かわいそうな
ジョンは、17日後に亡くなりました。
