NO DATE Lesson 9 Today I want to talk about the importance to me of reading. I read books in two different languages: in Japanese, my native language, and in English. Japanese is much easier for me than English, of course, but the main rewards of reading are the same. In each of the languages, those rewards are pleasure and knowledge. 2 My reading for pleasure in Japanese began when I was still a little girl. My mother often bought me picture books, and I loved them. In junior high school, I began to read novels. That was a very exciting experience. Now. I especially like to read about the cultures of other countries. And all of this reading has been more than simply enjoyable. It has also been educational. It has increased my understanding of the issues that people face in their lives. 3 In English, I like to read mystery stories. They are wonderful entertainment, and they increase my knowledge of the language. Mystery stories contain descriptions of people and places, and they offer a lot of conversations between characters. Whenever I learn an interesting new English expression, I want to try to use it myself. I keep a diary in English, and I try to use new expressions each time I write in it. 4 To me, the main rewards of reading are, indeed, pleasure and knowledge. But I do not see these as completely separate things. For me, the feeling of gaining useful knowledge is, in itself, also a very special pleasure. issue reward See A as B increase indeed

英文解釈で質問があって、 この文のように副詞とかで囲ってかたまりとしてみる時にどこまでがかたまりを作っているのかが分かりません。 例えばこの例文ならas a mother talksとto her childを副詞の()を分けてかたまりを作ると考えてました。

It is easy for you to read this book. 「この本を読むことはきみにとって(きみには)易しいことだ」 This book is easy for you to read. 「きみにとって(きみには)この本は読みやすい」

参考書に付帯状況の with という項目についての質問です。「付帯状況」という言葉を知りませんでした。 参考書には「with A + B の A には名詞、Bには現在分詞・過去分詞・形容詞・副詞・前置詞+名詞のいずれかがくる」と書かれているのですが、with A to do... という未来分詞(?)が来るのはダメですか?たとえば、With my wife to pick him up at the station, my son didn't have to be waiting for me. みたいに、文法用語アレルギーで理解不足を感じます。感覚で作ってみたのですが、大丈夫でしょうか?大丈夫なら学校の英作文の自由作文課題で使いたいと思います。

下の英語長文のhowの部分の訳し方について質問です。(空欄→whatです) how their resolutions compare with the previous year's behavior. の部分を、「どのように彼らの決断は前年の行動と比較するのか」と訳したのですが、不自然になってしまいました。解答は、「どのように〜と"比較されるか"」となっていたのですが、なぜcompareが能動なのに、受動で訳されるのですか?(確かに、能動で訳すと上記の私がしてしまったような訳になってしまうので不適切だと思うのですが) 英語を読んでいて、もし能動で訳して変な場合は受動で訳しても良いということなのでしょうか? 教えていただけると助かります。
