dish in Okinawa. It is made with goya, tofu, and eggs.
Champuruu means "mix" in Uchinaaguchi. What is
Uchinaaguchi? It is a language spoken on the main island
5 of Okinawa.
During the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom, several
languages were spoken in the Okinawa islands.
Uchinaaguchi was one of them. However, after the kingdom
turned into Okinawa Prefecture, Japanese became its
10 official language. Today, Uchinaaguchi is spoken mostly
among old people.
In 2009, UNESCO designated Uchinaaguchi an
endangered language. Since that time, more and more
people have been worrying about the death of Uchinaaguchi.
