私は中３でこの例文を作ったので、習っていない文法などあったらすみません！
前置詞の「詞」は名詞を表しています。つまり、名詞の前に置くのが前置詞です。
その為、前置詞の後に動詞を置く場合は、動名詞にする必要があります。
例えば、byの「～によって」
How do you study English?という問に対して、教科書を読むことで、と答えるとき。
By reading textbook.
とします。
また、look forward to「楽しみにしている」という表現では
I'm looking forward to playing tennis is with you.となります。toの後は殆んどが動詞の原型なのですが、
このlook forward toのtoは不定詞ではなく前置詞なので動詞を動名詞に変化させます。
