解き方です🎶

①の例では

Look at the picture of the children / that are smiling.

と関係代名詞 that で区切って、先行詞children を詳しく説明する語(修飾詞)smiling を先行詞の前に置き換えて同じ意味の文に書き替えてます。

②も同じように考えて
~by the dog /that was barking.
barking の位置を先行詞の前に移動。

③は二つの文に分かれていますが、
sun が先行詞で
Look at the sun / that is rising.
と同じことだと考えると、rising の位置を先行詞の前に移動して一つの文につなぎます。

④はちょっとひねってある問題です。
The Normans were people /that spoke French.
あれ?他の問題みたいに~ing の修飾語が無い。。。💦。。ひねってあります。
people が先行詞で、"フランス語を話す"という修飾を前に付けます。単純に

~were spoke French people.❌

としては間違いです。

spoke を動名詞 (動詞原形+~ing) に変換してFrench people の前に置きます。
