下線部の部分でwouldは何故仮定法とわかるのですか？willの過去形の意味では通らないのですか？助動詞の過去形がある時ifがないときに仮定法になるならないの判別がよくわかってないです。
教えて欲しいです。

Francine and I have been married now forty-six years, and I
would be lying to say that I have loved her for any more than half
of these. Let us say that for the last yearI haven't, let us say this for
the last ten, even. Time has made torments of our small differences
and tolerance of our passions.

仮定法の場合
wouldがあるから過去だ！ということではなく
仮定法過去（現実仮想〜だったらいいのに）
過去←現実
現実では受け入れがたいがたいから距離を出すために過去形を使います
なのでwillの過去形のwouldだから過去と考えるよりも現実とは受け入れがたい、現実と距離がある考えだから過去形を使うんだって考えた方がわかりやすいと思います
