there were...in the world だと「世界には...がある」と捉えられかねません。fromがいいでしょう。

元の文は動詞がなく、文になっていません。これは大きな文法ミスです。

この手のincrease/decrease のミスは多いので気をつけてください。amusementという概念は増えたり減ったりしません。その数や種類が変化します。なので主語はthe number of...にしましょう。
