大問2番についてです。大問2番の1で関係代名詞のwhichを使わない理由はどうしてですか?

問2の(あ)をneverthelessにしてしまいました。 答えは3番です。確かに対比されてるから3番になるなとは思ったのですが、なぜ2番が駄目なのか明確な理由がわかりません。 どなたか教えて下さると幸いです
