Last summer we watched a young boy build a sand castle at the beach. He approached his task with the seriousness of a construction engineer working on a forty- story building. He worked so hard gathering sand that after a half hour he had a large heap of it, which he then with great effort patted into a low building. When he was 5 finally satisfied with his work, he went over to his father. 10 15 "Look, Dad. Look what I did." The boy's father carefully studied the heap. He walked around it as if inspecting a work of art. "Charlie, you've made a great castle. I think it's the best on the beach." The boy's smile was as bright as the sun emerging after a week of rain. His father's praise had made him the happiest boy in the world. As we watched this scene, it reminded us of the power of praise. And sadly, of how little most of us receive as adults. (1)- We thought of a story our friend Marty told us. Marty is a management consultant. He was hired by an Internet company that was just starting its business. People were too busy and their tempers were reaching the boiling point. There were a lot of disputes among them. Toni, a brilliant young woman and a key member of the technical staff, had been working fourteen hours a day, seven days a week. She said to Marty that a number of job offers were coming her way, and she was tempted to take one. 20 Marty took her aside and asked if there was anything he could do to keep her at the 25 30 company. "I think you've been doing a great job, but I also have noticed that your stress level is approaching Mt. Everest. What can I do to help?" Before she could answer, Toni broke down into tears. When she pulled herself together, Marty discovered that in addition to the stress of the long hours and the pressure, she hadn't received one word of approval, let alone praise, of her work. Marty immediately went to Toni's boss and told him the situation. (2)- "And while you're at it," he concluded, "a few words of praise for the rest of the staff could only help." The boss acted immediately on Marty's suggestion. An hour after talking to Toni alone in his office, he called all the employees into the conference room. There on the He then proceeded to tell each person how table was a display of sweets and coffee. much he appreciated what they had accomplished. 例えばこの例文ならas a mother talksとto her childを副詞の()を分けてかたまりを作ると考えてました。

It is easy for you to read this book. This book is easy for you to read.

This passage introduces Chamorro, an endangered language spoken by the indigenous Chamorro people of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. The number of speakers declined significantly around 1917, when the U.S. Naval Government banned its use in schools and public areas. Furthermore, the growth of tourism and the rise of globalization reinforced the dominance of English, further marginalizing Chamorro. Today, efforts to preserve the language include incorporating it into school curricula, displaying it on public signs, and promoting its role in local cultural events and community activities.

With my wife to pick him up at the station, my son didn't have to be waiting for me.

a boy looking at the moon の a boy と looking の関係は能動、a man killed in the war の a man と killed の関係は受け身。これはわかるのですが、a book to read の a book と to read の関係(本はこれから読まれるんですよね)は to read が形が能動なのに意味が受動なのはなぜですか? a man to keep his promise は能動関係、a promise to arrive in time とかはポンポンと並列されていて同格関係(?) なぜ a book to read とか something to eat は a book to be read とか something to be eaten とはならないのでしょうか(ひょっとしてこれもOK)?
