⑤ 長文読解 Jenny is a fifth grader. She is considered one of the most popular girls in her class and she has a talent for dancing. Last year, she entered her school's dance competition and won first place. Her whole class was there to support her. This year, the school held another dance competition, but there was a change. The competition had to be done in pairs. Jenny's class greatly hoped that she would win again this year. (7), Jenny wasn't. sure she could win this year. She wanted to enter the competition, but she had never danced with a partner before. She decided to request several boys in her class to enter with her. They all said no to her because they didn't know how to dance. Jenny was becoming uncertain about joining the competition. She finally decided to turn to one of her closest friends, Carl. Jenny and Carl had known each other since the first grade. Carl didn't want to join the competition at first because he also didn't know how to dance. Jenny asked him again and again. He finally agreed to be her partner. Jenny was happy. But she was still worried because she knew her class expected her to win this year's competition. She needed time and practice to increase her chances of winning. This time, it would be more of a challenge because Carl didn't know how to dance. The competition was in two months, and only time could tell whether or not she would win. Jenny needed to start planning for the competition. She had to spend time helping Carl learn to dance. Jenny and Carl spent the first two weeks memorizing their steps and "cues to their dance. Carl was a poor dancer at first, but he gradually got the hang of it. They spent the rest of the time perfecting their moves. The day of the competition was getting near. Jenny and Carl were beginning to get nervous. They were competing against nine other pairs from the same school. The day of the competition arrived. Carl hadn't become a great dancer, but he had clearly improved since he began. The pairs that were performing this year were better dancers compared to those at last year's competition. As each pair took the stage one by one, Jenny grew more anxious. Carl noticed (this and said, "It'll be okay, Jenny. You are great, and I'm sure we'll win." Jenny felt better after hearing that. Soon, it was their turn to perform. They were off to a great start. Jenny's class was there cheering them on. The crowd began cheering them on as well. Suddenly, Jenny slipped and fell. The crowd was shocked. Carl helped Jenny get up in time for their big "finale. After their performance, the judges "tallied up the scores and were ready to announce the winner. Jenny and Carl won, but it was a close match. They won because of Jenny's talent and quick thinking to keep their dance going. They both received a trophy and medals. Jenny and Carl were full of cheer at this victory. ⑥ 長文読解 The first historical supporter of animal rights is thought to have been the ancient Greek thinker, Pythagoras. Based on his belief that humans could return in animal bodies after death, he argued for treating animals the same as humans. Through the ages, cultures and governments have held different views on the matter. In some cultures, only certain animals are given special rights above other animals. Other cultures try to care for and protect all animals equally. Animal rights in Western society became a topic of public debate in the 1800s. The world's first group for animal rights was created in England in 1824. This group was led by several members of Parliament. ( Their main goal was to reduce unnecessary animal suffering. They achieved this by passing laws and then hiring monitors to find people who were breaking the laws. Similar groups soon were formed across the rest of Europe. The first such American organization was created in 1866. It was started in New York City by Henry Bergh. Its main goal was to stop the suffering of pets and farm animals. From the late 1800s until the 1970s, a wide variety of laws were passed aiming to stop people from harming animals and doing experiments on them. Then in the 1970s, the modern animal rights movement began. The person generally regarded as the founder of the movement is an Australian philosopher, Peter Singer. His book Animal Liberation is well-known. In this book, Singer argues that an animal's *ability to reason is not a point of discussion. Instead, the fact that animals (1) is the reason to take action. The best known animal rights organization today is PETA. This group was started in the United States in 1980. It became famous when one of the founders, Alex Pacheco, went to work in a "primate research lab. He was not really there to help with research. He was there to gather evidence of harm to animals. His discoveries resulted in the arrest of the head researcher and in the making of stronger animal rights laws. PETA has since become the leader in the animal rights movement worldwide. It continues to take action against practices such as factory farming, sport hunting, and fur trading. Today, the topic of animal rights certainly appears to concern more people than before. This can be seen through certain practices that are becoming widespread.

例えばこの例文ならas a mother talksとto her childを副詞の()を分けてかたまりを作ると考えてました。
