主語の決定
原則①
~が増えている
More and more +
~
(複数形)+are (v)ing
(不可算名詞)+is(V)ing
ex) These days more and more Japanse people are traveling abroad.
"最近では海外に行く日本人が増えている。
・動詞は現在進行形とするのが普通!現在形を用いても間違いではない。
ますます増える
② The number of +~(複数形) + is increasing
ex) The number of cars in this town is increasing.
この町の車が増えている。
(複数形) ~ are increasing だけでは「数の増加」という意味にはならない。なので
主語に "the number"「数」を置くことで意味を明確にしなければならない。
上の文に more and more を足さない! "increase"に"more"の意味を含むため。
複数形 to(V) 述語動詞が現在形の文中に<名詞+to(V))とある場合、to(v)
は「未来」を示唆する。
ex) I am looking for an American to teach me English.
"私は英語を教えてくれるアメリカ人を探している。
ただし! Tom was the first / last to come.="トムは真っ先に来た/最後に来た
[述語詞が過去形の文中にㄑthe first /last+to (v)>の場合は例外。
③ The amount of +~ (不可算名詞)+is increasing
ex) The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing year by year.
"大気中の二酸化炭素が年々増している。
