原級を使った比較
1. Tony is as tall as you (are).
トニーはあなたと同じくらいの背の高さだ。

2つめの as の後ろは本来<as+S+V>の形で使うがVが省略されること
もある。
▲ 日常会話では,後ろの人称代名詞は目的格にするのがふつう。

否定文では1つ目の as の代わりに so を使うこともある。

比較級には-er を付けるものと, 原級に more を付けるもの, 不規則に変化する
ものがある。
▲ less を使うと『より〜でない/より少ない[少なく]』 の意味になる。 (3.で書きかえ可)
・Children play outdoors less often today than before.
今日では子どもたちは以前ほど外で遊ばなくなった。
≒ Children don't play outdoors as often today as before.
7. John isn't taller than Tony.
ジョンはトニーより背が高いということはない。
> <A...not+比較級 + than B> 『AはBより~ということはない』

8. Tony is much[far/a lot] taller than John.

• She spent much more money than me.
She is two years older than her sister.

<A...程度や差を表す語句+than B>『AはBよりも･･･ け~だ』
・It's a little [bit] colder today than yesterday.

<by+数詞を使った表現>を使って同じ意味を表すことができる。
• She is older than her sister by two years.
