Section 1
Village life in Africa can be very hard.
There is often no electricity or running water.
There are not enough school.
One 14-year old boy decided he was going to
change things.
And he was going to do it all by himself,
William Kamkwamba grew up in a village of 60.

When he was 13, there was a terrible drought.
He remembers his family's eating only one meal
a day.
He had to drop out of school because his family
could not pay the tuition.
William spent his days in the village library.
He could hardly read English, but he studied pictures
in the book.
He saw a photo of a windmill making electricity

It is hard to believe that a boy from such a poor village
developed an interest in Technology.
But that is just what William did.
In 2002, when he was 14, he built a windmill.
