① 「the+ 比較級... the + 比較級〜」の最初の the は 「どれだけ･･･なのか｣ 後の the は 「それだけ (いっそう)
という意味を表す。
●比較級全体が節の先頭に移動するので、以下の例文では the more likely を節の最初に置く。 more と like
を離してしまうのは誤り。
例 若ければ若いほど, 高い確率で携帯メールをするのだ。 (東京工業大)
O The younger you are, the more likely you are to text.
× The younger you are, the more you are likely to text.
●基本例題 1. ( 内の語を並べかえなさい。
(harder/you / work / the ), the more money he'll give you.
B as if +仮定法 / as if + 直説法
② 彼はまるで人気歌手であるかのように歌う。
