英語にしたらwhat is the langage spoken in the countryですが、何故what language isはダメなのでしょうか？

べつにwhat language isでも文法的にはOKですよ。
What language is spoken in the country?は「その国では何語が話されていますか」で，What is the language～は「その国で話されている言語は何ですか」という違いです。違いというか，言ってることはほぼ同じです。
