12 言語がすぐれているとか劣っているとかいう見方は,言語そのものの性質に
基づくものではまったくなく, 話者の権力、階級,あるいは社会的地位に拠っている。
母語として使われる手話や音声言語はどれも,日常生活の基本的な伝達の要求に対処
するために十分に整備された体系であり,必要に応じて単語を作り出したり借用した
りすることができる。 言語学者であり多言語話者でもあったヤコブソンは, 「言語が本
質的に異なるのは,それが伝えなければならないことにおいてであって, それが伝え
られることにおいてではない」と述べた。言い換えると,どんな言語であれ何でも言
うことは可能だが,それぞれの言語の文法が, 話者に対して,どんなに無意識であっ
こも、現実の特定の部分を際立たせ、他の部分を際立たせないよう 「要求する」のである。

Perceptions of linguistic superiority or inferiority are not based on
anything about the languages themselves, but on the power, class, or status of
the speakers. Every language signed or spoken natively is a fully equipped
system for handling the core communicative demands of daily life, able to coin
or borrow words as needed. "Languages differ essentially in what they must
convey and not in what they may convey," said the linguist and polyglot
Jakobson. In other words: it's possible to say anything in any language, but
each language's grammar requires speakers to mark out certain parts of reality
and not others, however unconsciously.

例えば、英語では時制によって動詞の形が変わったり、何かにつけて時制がついてまわりますが、中国語では動詞の形が時制によって変わることはありません。
食べる　も　食べた　も　食べている　も同じ形で、例えば時を表す単語が周囲にあれば、それによって動詞の意味も特定されます。
あるいは日本語の動詞には「敬語」というのがありますが、英語にはありませんね。敬意を表す表現は英語にもありますが、動詞の形がそれによって変わるわけではない。

つまり
言わなきゃいけない情報が、それぞれの言語の文法に組み込まれている、ということです。
