Most Japanese miss good service when they go overseas, especially in some European countries. It
did not take me very long to figure out that the people in shops never apologize, even if they are at
fault. Once I paid the cashier with a €20 note in a supermarket, and she mistook it for a €5 note. I
agree that the €20 and €5 notes are similar, so I pointed this out to the cashier, but she was rude and

Over a long weekend in summer, I tried to ( ② ) a train seat but there were none available because

it was the high season, so I had to reschedule my plans. I was irritated because the station was in
chaos and there were so many people coming and going. I was waiting at the correct platform after
checking my ticket several times, and the train came after a delay of a couple of minutes. But it was
not the one I wanted to take. I asked a clerk where my train was, and she said it had just left from the
other track because they had switched the tracks that day only. What a mess! I ran to the customer
service desk.
