This is a picture I took in an elevator in Hong Kong. If
you look carefully, you'll see that the numbers 4, 13, 14,
and 24 are missing. This is because Hong Kong was once
a British colony, so the culture of Hong Kong reflects
both Chinese and British superstitions: 4 is considered
an unlucky number in China, while 13 is in the U.K.
It is interesting to learn about the differences in
culture and customs between countries, and knowing
the history of a place helps us understand local
customs.
