下の英文のHowever,以降の比較級についてお聞きしたいです。 ここでは、直訳すると「古代の人々が理解していたのと同じくらいしか、私たちは幸せとは何かということを理解していなかった。」となると思います。ですが、than以降が肯定文であるのに対してthanより前が否定文になっているので違和感を感じます。 日本語訳で見るとおかしくないのですが、英文の構造的に理解することが難しいです。 これは、not〜any 比較級 than = no 比較級 than〜だから一見不均衡に見えても成り立っているということですか? また、このようなnot any 比較級 thanの文を見たときの脳内としては ①まず、not があるので普通に動詞を否定で訳す ②any 比較級 thanを発見する→than以降の部分と比較級となっている基準が同じ、と認識する ③than以降を普通に訳す という感じで良いのでしょうか? 細かいことですみません。 教えて下さると嬉しいです。

下の英文の解釈についてです。 日本語訳は、「子供に対する母親の愛、つまり完全に利他的な愛は、人が経験できる最も強い感情の一つである。そしてまたその愛情は、多くの母親が苦もなく自分の子供を愛する事ができるが故にいっそう、それほど強いものには見えないのである。」となっています。 この英文の中の「deceptive」は、「母親が簡単に子供に愛を注ぐから、周りにいる者にはそれがそれほど強いものには見えない」ということを意味しているそうなのですが、なぜそのような解釈になるのかが分からないです。なぜ急に、周りの人が出てくるのでしょうか?この文だけから推測する事って難しくないですか? 教えていただきたいです。
