in →比較的広い空間の時

in Japan:日本で
ただ、in the libraryの場合は「〜の中で」の意味合いだと思います。
図書館という限られた空間の中。
on →何かに接している場合
on the desk:机の上に
on the 3rd floor:3階で
on the field:野原で
図書館という空間は平面ではないからではないですかね？

自分はinはある程度の空間内の中onは表面の接触で理解しています
on the deskなら机の上にの"上に"を表してるからわかりますがin thelibraryとon the fieldの場合どちらも平坦にいるはずだろうしon the fieldにおける表面の接触がよくわかりません
